The elderly (60 plus) constitutes 7.5% (about 80 million) of total population of India. This figure is expected to reach 100 million in 2013 and 198 million in 2030. Increasing number of aged persons in the country is a recent demographic phenomenon making dramatic changes in age structure. With the promotion of individuality concept, modernization and urbanisation, the younger generation finds hard to take care of the elderly. The problems faced by the elderly are many and need to be addressed on a priority basis.
The decision to set up Day Care Centres is a response to the inadequate avenues for elderly people for recreation & entertainment, especially in cities and other urban areas. The centres will be initially set up in Delhi, Haryana and Orissa where HDS is working, and will be extended to other parts of the country in future. Day Care Centres, as the name suggests, will provide facilities like health check up, library, music & television, yoga & meditation, indoor games etc.
The project on Day Care Centres is part of our efforts to provide institutional care to the elderly people.
HDS appeals to all philanthropic-minded individuals and institutions for support to make the project a grand success.
For one centre, we have a yearly budget of Rs.5 lakh for 25 people at the maximum.
Demand Draft / Cheque may be made in favour of Human Development Society and payable at New Delhi.
Important Note: We shall keep you informed about the activities of the Centres and also the ways your money will be spent by us. Your contribution will be accorded due recognition at the project location, website of HDS and in project-specific literature and annual report.
All donations to HDS are eligible for tax relief under section 80 (G) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. |
